ECU tuning & remapping
A remap changes how the engine actually behaves: where the power comes on, how it tows, and how much fuel it drinks doing it. Done properly it makes a vehicle nicer to drive and cheaper to run. Done badly it costs you an engine.
What a remap actually does
The factory tune is a compromise written for every market the vehicle sells into, every fuel quality and every climate. Up here, towing a van up the range in the wet season, that compromise is rarely the best it could be. A remap adjusts fuelling, boost and timing for how the vehicle is actually used.

Towing and touring
Most of the tuning work out here is towing related. A van or a boat behind a diesel ute changes what you want from the engine: torque lower down, less hunting between gears on a climb, and better throttle response when you are already loaded. That is a different tune to one chasing a peak power figure.
Done properly, or not at all
Tuning sits close to a lot of expensive parts. We would rather talk through what you actually want out of the vehicle and be straight about whether a tune is the right answer, than sell you one because you asked. If the honest answer is that a tune will not fix what is annoying you, we will say so.
Common questions
ECU tuning & remapping, answered
Do you do ECU tuning and remapping?
Yes. Give us a ring and tell us what the vehicle is, what you tow and what you want out of it, and we will tell you honestly what a tune will and will not do for it.
Will a remap use less fuel?
It can, particularly on a diesel that spends its life towing. But it depends on the vehicle and on how it is driven afterwards. Anyone who promises you a fixed percentage before looking at the vehicle is guessing.
Can you tune farm machinery and trucks?
Talk to us about it. We work on trucks and farm machinery across the Tablelands, so tell us the make and model and what it is doing, and we will tell you what is possible.

What else we do
Farm machinery auto electrics
A machine that will not start in the middle of a job does not cost you a repair bill, it costs you the day. And on the Tablelands the alternative is a float and a tow into town, which costs more again. So we bring the workshop to the paddock.
Read moreAuto air conditioning
This is Far North Queensland. Air conditioning is not a luxury item, and a car with no air con in February is close to unusable. We fix the reason it stopped rather than just filling it back up with gas.
Read moreDual battery & 12V setups
A 12V setup either holds together on corrugated roads or it does not, and you find out which a long way from town. The difference is almost always in the fusing, the cable size and how the joins were made.
Read moreAuto electrical repairs
Something has stopped working, the dash is lit up, or the car will not start, and nobody has been able to tell you why. Electrical faults get expensive when they are guessed at, because you end up paying for parts that were never the problem.
Read moreMechanical repairs
Being an auto electrician and a mechanic in the one van is the whole point. Out here the alternative is often a tow into Mareeba and two separate bookings, and a fault that crosses the line between electrical and mechanical is exactly the sort that gets passed back and forth while nobody fixes it.
